Unremarkable, but ongoing.
This is me. Sam.
Not every story has a takeaway. Disappointing, I know. Some days are just… days.
Plain. Repetitive. Quiet in a way that is neither heavy nor peaceful. Just quiet. The kind you don’t write poems about.
Lately, life has been simple in the most unremarkable way. Wake up. Work. Work some more. Push myself till I am tired enough to sleep. That is the goal now – enough exhaustion to shut the mind off at night. Think of it as a fundamental productivity hack. Staying awake does not feel exciting anymore when you are alone in a single-bedded room or a quiet house that listens more than it speaks. If walls had opinions, mine would probably sigh.
Solitude gets romanticized a lot. And yes, it can feel good – for a while. You learn your routines. You learn your silences. You learn how little you actually need to get through a day. Very enlightening. Very zen. But after a point, it stops feeling deep and starts feeling ordinary. Hours pass without leaving much behind. Not every quiet moment is a revelation, turns out.
Sometimes the boredom comes from the sameness of everything.
Sometimes it just feels like the natural result of living alone for long enough. No backstory. No background score. Just repetition.
Things did change at some point. Not loudly. Not all at once. Just in small, forgettable ways. Routines shifted. Priorities rearranged themselves. For a while, I noticed the change constantly. Now it sits quietly in the background without asking for attention. Like furniture, you stop seeing it after a few months.
Time does that.
It does not resolve things in dramatic ways. It just makes certain thoughts less interesting. The mind slowly stops visiting places that no longer offer anything new. What once demanded explanations now barely gets a second look. Closure, apparently, can also arrive looking like boredom.
These days, I take life one day at a time. Not in a motivational quote way. Just practically. I do what needs to be done. I say what feels necessary. I move through the day without overthinking the direction too much. I do not want to measure life in hindsight or keep a mental list of what I should have done differently. I am tired enough without supervising my own past.
Regret takes effort. I no longer feel the need to invest in it. My energy budget is limited, and regret did not make the cut.
So no, this is not a story about transformation or closure.
It is just a story about showing up to another normal day.
Working till the body slows down.
Sleeping because the body needs to.
Waking up and repeating.
Riveting stuff, I know.
Nothing dramatic. Nothing poetic.
Just me, living inside a routine that is neither exciting nor suffocating. Just steady. The emotional equivalent of a steady Wi-Fi connection. Not fast. Not broken. Just there.
Some evenings pass with noise on the phone and silence in the room. Some nights are spent doing nothing in particular and everything that needs to be done. There is no strong emotion attached to any of it anymore. Only familiarity. Peace, if you are feeling optimistic. Routine, if you are not.
Maybe this phase will change someday. Maybe it will not. For now, this is simply where I am. Not drifting. Not chasing. Just existing in the middle of ordinary days.
Not exciting. Not tragic. Just… operational.
No breakthrough. No breakdown. Just maintenance.
