One of the good things, that you get after giving an interview are a few good friends with a similar intellectual curiosity. One of the very few stay after they crash into a job. That’s how I met Sakshi – someone, who can be perceived as an unethical and rude but, straight forward girl.
“Where are you going?” – she asked.
“To get the lighter!”
“There are no shops nearby. Where the hell do you think, you are going?”
“I’m just crossing the road to get the lighter or matchbox from Auto driver.” – I didn’t know what the fuss was about, when I could just cross the road and borrow a match to fume a smoke.
“… and he would give you the match! Why would he?”
“Because, he is my dad’s friend!” – attacking her with my sort of ‘casms.
I successfully managed to borrow the lighter from the auto driver and passed it to her.
“Good!” – she passed a comment merely while making a ring of smoke in the air and continued – “When are you planning on earning?”
“On your dad’s funeral! Would you care to join?” – had to crack that to the only friend who actually dares to understand the hidden sarcasm.
Although, we are all joking and laughing and sipping all the frustrations off the joblessness, we still find it hard to debug our mental state after all the rejections. We may either choose to cry about a failure and fail even further while getting filled with pessimistic beliefs. We may choose to try hitching onto an infinite rope and start climbing, believing that we will get out of the infinity well, someday. Sakshi had a habit of choosing to move on with the open ended questions, no matter what happens.
“So, what’s your go-to after you get rejected?” – staring at the never ending smile, I asked her.
“Just move on.”
Sometimes, a flashback is enough to make your day. Sometimes, all the motivation, that you need may lie in a person or in a memory. Sometimes, it may all be about the past and how you get to learn from others. A conversation with her, used to make me stand up everyday, after getting rejected, every time…and it’s been an year, since we have had one, just because I am still jobless and she isn’t.
“Wait for me to come home!” – and she took off to UK…
Some friendships are not meant to be forever. But, they are the ones, you get to learn from. Don’t just perceive what you see! There is always more to it.
